Top 50 Survival and Preparedness Blogs

Posted on 29 October 2011 by Joshua

Survival Top 50 recently posted their updated list of the top preparedness, survival and disaster blogs.

We found the list to be quite extensive and inclusive of some of the best resources for preparedness planning on the internet. The websites have been ranked using a variety of metrics, including Google Pagerank, Incoming Links, and the Alexa Traffic ranking algorithm. Though these rankings don’t necessarily determine quality of content or regularity of publishing, the fact that they have a high volume of visitors and incoming links suggests that people visiting the web sites find the information of benefit and consider the content to be informative and worthy of links from their own blogs or social network pages.

Remember that part of what I am doing here at LearnHowToBePrepared.com is sorting through all this stuff for you everyday. So I can say that a LOT of these are great places to visit.. but who has time for all 50.. lets go with the top 20.

Ranked starting from the #1 position:

  1. Survival Blog
  2. The Survivalist Blog
  3. In Case Of Emergency, Read Blog
  4. American Preppers Network
  5. The Survival Podcast
  6. Survival Topics
  7. Red Alerts: The American Survival Blog
  8. Be A Survivor
  9. SHTF Plan
  10. Total Survivalist Libertarian Rantfest
  11. Preparedness Pantry
  12. The Survival & Emergency Preparedness Blog
  13. Keep It Simple Survival
  14. Pioneer Survival Blog
  15. Off Grid Survival
  16. The Survival Mom
  17. Daily Survival
  18. Stealth Survival
  19. The Just In Case Book Blog
  20. Adventures in Self Reliance

We recommend visiting Survival Top 50 for the complete list. There’s some extensive information out there for those willing to spend the time to research and implement. Everything you need to prepare for scenarios ranging from natural disasters to a complete collapse of the system as we know it is available to you – for free.

How to dress your Jeep for Halloween

Posted on 26 October 2011 by Joshua

1. Drive car over crowd of Zombie M*@&^# F@#(#

No really..

Check this out! Talk about going all out..

1. Copious amounts of blood makeup! Get the really red stuff.. that dries slick looking..

2. Some lightly cooked animal fats.. (these will only get better with age)

3. Rubber Body Parts..  A head.. some arms.. maybe a even a torso..

Step 1..

Tie the Body Parts to your car.. in this case.. a jeep.. Use clear zip ties.. so when you are running from the cops the first few times.. they dont fall off..

Step 2…  Splatter the moist animal fats on your car.. boiled chicken skin would work great for this..   If you do it a few weeks ahead of time you may even get a stench and some maggots. (Living special effects are the best special effects.)

Step 3..  Fill some large balloons with your fake blood. Hand them from a tree branch.. Hit them with the front of your car.. going 20-40 mph if you can..

(alternatively you can spray the hell out of it if you cant drive into balloons filled with fake blood..

Step 4.. Show up at the Halloween party screaming about how the Zombie Apocalypse is REALLY happening!!

(for added effect bring your air soft m-16 with you or a axe.. tell everyone to close up the house!

PS I love Reddit.. Thanks Jim for sharing the pic..

Someone let the TSA out of the Air Ports..

Now they are checking trucking and highway passengers?

Some of the worst realities have come from the best intentions.

Is it okay to drive with out my shoes on now?

How to grow Oyster mushrooms in your fridge for cheap!

Posted on 24 October 2011 by Joshua

Thanks to LifeHacker for bringing this to us.. How to grow Oyster mushrooms.. What a great video! if you have a good 6 months to get your mushroom garden growing this is a great way to do it.. that Costs almost nothing!

You’ll need a fresh Oyster mushroom with it’s woody base still attached, sterilized sawdust (pet cedar shavings), a few handfuls of straw, and common household items such as paper bags, 1-gallon freezer bags, and hydrogen peroxide. The entire process will take six months to result in free mushrooms, but your total time and cost investment is minimal.

Survival Engineering & Homestead DIY

Posted on 23 October 2011 by Joshua

Over the past week I have been watching “The Colony” and I really have been enjoying it. Sure it has a flaw here and their.. But what it really has brought into focus for me is what I call “Survival Engineering“ And how that can be a link either forwards or backwards into homesteading and how you can prepare your homestead both urban and rural for long term off grid survival and at the same time build skills to help you prepare to for survival situations.

I still have a few episodes before I start writing reviews on the show.. but for now.. I want to start a new section of the website highlight some views and ideas of Survival Engineering
