Mainstream financial analysts want us to believe that gold’s unprecedented rise throughout the last decade is almost over – that it is just another bubble soon to pop. Central banks, state-sponsored economists and many well respected high dollar investors have all tried to convince us that there is no more upside for precious metals, often arguing that the 5,000 year-old relics are but worthless metals – not money.

The interesting thing is they’ve been saying that repeatedly, since before the financial crisis was ever recognized. Yet, gold has continued to rise unabated.

In the following Future Money Trends interview, well respected investment analyst Jay Taylor of MiningStocks.com discusses this powerful trend in gold, the government manipulation of the financial and economic system, the importance of diversifying your wealth, why precious metals are a good investment, some ideas for investors, and the signs you’ll see when gold does finally become a “bubble.”

A lot of the establishment would have us believe gold is already in a bubble.

But if you look at the supply of gold above ground relative to the amount of money that’s been created, it’s money and it’s the bond market that’s in a bubble.

Yes, I suppose that one day that could happen.

I remember 1980, when gold went from $35 a few years earlier to $850.

I remember that time there was panic buying of gold by people in the streets of New York City. They were lined up around the block… to buy gold and Krugerrands at that time.

I don’t see anything like that now.

If I walk down the streets of New York and ask people, “do you think you should have five or ten  percent of your portfolio in gold,” most people would say, “No, no way. That’s ridiculous. It doesn’t pay you any interest. Why would you own the stupid stuff?”

So, I think we’re a long way away from that bubble.

I think people in the rest of the world and don’t trust their politicians to the extent that Americans do, are buying gold.

Certainly the Chinese are…

I suppose that we could see a bubble at some time.

I suppose that, as we saw in 1980, there will be huge amounts of people that finally lose confidence and throw in the towel on the policy makers.

And, then there will be a rush to gold like we’ve  never seen before.

And when people start to insist on delivery of their gold… for the huge amounts of paper that’s out there in the futures markets… And if those people on the buy side want to take delivery… the price is going to go to the moon. I really believe that.

Via: FutureMoneyTrends.com

As an asset of last resort, precious metals like gold and silver have always been worth something. With the fiscal and monetary policies currently under implementation around the world, along with literally trillions of dollars in unserviceable debt, it wouldn’t take much to set off a panic buying spree in gold.

In the last 30 days, since the Newtown school shootings, panic buying has left gun stores across the country with nothing on their shelves and back-orders of six months or more. Tens of thousands of Americans have been lining up outside of firearms shops and gun shows, grabbing up anything they can get their hands on.

That’s what it looks like when the entire consciousness of a nation suddenly shifts.

That’s what it looks like when hundreds of millions of dollars of capital are rapidly reallocated.

One day in the not too distant future, the people of this country and around the world are going to come to the realization that our governments, central banks and state-sponsored financial institutions have been playing a shell game – that it’s all been one grand manipulation.

Confidence in our government’s ability to manage this crisis will be lost.

When that happens, as Jay Taylor notes, “there will be a rush to gold like we’ve  never seen before.” Precious metals dealers and coin shops all over the globe will sell out of inventory.

As we’ve seen with popular assault rifles, ammunition and accessories recently, this shift of capital will lead to almost immediate price increases, and subsequently more public interest and panic buying.

There will be a bubble in gold – perhaps one of the biggest asset bubbles we’ve ever seen.

But we’re not there yet.

When you see lines of anxious shoppers waiting around the block to get in to your local bullion exchange and when stocks in exploration and mining companies jump hundreds of percentage points in just a few weeks time, then you’ll know we’ve reached bubble levels.

If you haven’t acquired some gold and silver assets by then, it’ll be too late.

Get gold now.

The Sunday Survival Buzz – Volume 47

Posted on 13 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

7473015318 55d1971090 o The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor SurvivalWelcome to this week’s Sunday Survival Buzz – a roundup of preparedness news, tips, articles and recommendations from around the web. But first, an update on my own preps.

I had lots of prepping on my to-do list this week but most of it did not get done.  Work, life and just being crazy busy means that packaging more beans, rice and other dry goods into the 5 gallon Mylar bags I purchased will just have to wait.

Likewise, I have a huge collection of No Rinse Products The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor Survival to test but did not have the personal bandwidth this week to even start.

There is one very important task that I did accomplish, though.  I connected with a few select members of my community – all of whom are preppers that read this blog – and we are going to have a meet and greet next week in town.  Now I know that some of you have reservations about this sort of thing and I do respect that.  On the other hand, I am hopeful that I will find some like-minded people that will help watch my back if the SHTF since after all, I would be pretty easy to find and single out.

Okay, enough about me.  Let’s get on to the Sunday Survival Buzz.

Survival News & Articles from Around the Web

Backdoor Survival Tips

The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor SurvivalFrom “Jay”, an inexpensive spot remover that goes hand in hand in my DIY Laundry Soap:

Since I work in construction a lot I use waterless hand cleaner [GOOP] – a lot.

It gets the messiest parts of a job off the hands until I can wash in water later. One of the little known secrets of the hand cleaner is its ability to remove stains from clothing. Especially inks, oil and other petroleum based products. Just rub some into the stain and launder as usual.

It even works on stains that have gone through a complete wash/dry cycle. Believe me, I have washed a dozen pens and saved my marriage by using the GOOP to get the stains out of my wife’s favorite blouse. Oh, and by the way it comes in a tube or a can. Available at any auto parts store for  $3 – $5. I carry a tube in my vehicles for the occasional on the road repair.

You know how I am always talking about finding free 5 gallon buckets – even if they smell like pickles?  These useful tips come from “The Concrete Fairy”:

Pickle smell can often be removed by filling the bucket to the top with water, add a cup or so of baking soda, put the lid on it, leave it out in the sun for a week or so (or until you remember it again) rinse well. Not sure how much the sun helps, that’s where I had to put them, makes sense that it would open the plastic pores up a bit. Works for me icon smile The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor Survival

I also use plastic 1 gallon jars from sandwich shop trash (had mayonnaise or peppers in them)same place I get the pickle buckets… Occasionally they throw out glass jars, but the plastic ones are consistent, the small shop near me throws out 3 or 4 mayo jars a week, 2 or 3 pepper jars, occasional other jars.

If you dig in their trash, clean up after yourself! Making messes gets dumpsters locked, and that annoys the rest of us.

Pro tip: wear gloves, and have paper towels and hand sanitizer with you.

Sounds like excellent advice to me!

The Blogroll aka Recommended Sites and The Honor Roll

A new addition this week is Survival News Online which is not a news portal but a real, honest to goodness blog with lots of useful, original content.  If you missed it on my Facebook page, be sure to ready 12 Useful Prepper, Survivalist, and Self-Reliance Websites.  The sites are listed in random order and guess who is #11?

I also added Prepper Daily News, a recently launched portal for prepper news from around the net.

Note:  For technical reasons, I have renamed Recommended Sites to “Blogroll”. The transition of this page is still a work in progress as I am trying to make a few changes each week without getting too bogged down.   Pardon the mess.

Though we cannot control many of the storms we may encounter in our own lives, there is something we can do to protect ourselves and our families when it comes to the single greatest dependency we have; air, water, and FOOD. We can prepare now by storing food reserves, and enjoy the peace of mind that comes with knowing our families will be provided for in the eventuality that something actually did happen.

Storing GOFoods helps by providing a long-term food storage solution that’s not only healthy and nutritious, but economical as well. The average cost for one of our meals is well under $2.00 per meal, with certain specials and larger units it’s under .75 per serving! Not only will you save money today but you will save even more when you reserve these delicious, gourmet products for future use. Compare our remarkable products to other food storage company products and we are confident you will like the results. FOOD IS OUR GREATEST DEPENDENCY, store and eat the very best.

The best reason to store GOFoods, is that it won’t cost you a penny more than you’re already spending on food. In fact, by purchasing GOFoods on a monthly basis instead of buying groceries at the local supermarket or eating out at unhealthy fast-food restaurants, you will likely save money each month. BIG money! And that’s good news for all of us!

Remember the free book from FEMA that was on backorder?  I am getting reports that the book is now shipping and yes, even though it is from FEMA, the book is good.  Did you get your copy?  If not, read about it in Free for You: The “Are You Ready Guide to Preparedness”.

The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor SurvivalShelly – aka the Survival Husband – just started reading the new Max Velocity book, Patriot Dawn: The Resistance Rises The Sunday Survival Buzz Volume 47 Backdoor Survival.  This is his entry into the Survival Fiction genre.  I learn so much from these books – love them as much as my John Grisham thrillers – the difference is they are also educational.

I asked Max about his new book and here is what he said:

Following the success of my manual ‘Contact! A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival’ I was reminded that fiction can also be a very useful means to pass information and paint a picture.

With my new novel ‘Patriot Dawn: The Resistance Rises’ that is exactly what I set out to do. The novel is set in a not too unlikely collapse and civil war situation in the United States, and the storyline is intended to incorporate into the action some of the tactical techniques covered in ‘Contact!’ Patriot Dawn is a powerful story of survival and civil war set in the near future.

The Final Word

When I first started The Sunday Survival Buzz, I thought I would be composing a quick little post to bring you up to date with various goings on both with myself and the prepping world.  And so it is today – only as time goes on I find more and more to add to the weekly muse.  I find that the word “quick” has disappeared from my vocabulary but so be it.  Life goes on, as does prepping and staying informed about the world around us.

January and February are my busiest times, work wise, so if I am slow to respond to emails over the next couple of months, just know that I read all comments and everything else you send my way but that you may not always get a personal response.

Letter Re: A Few AR-15 Full Capacity Magazines Found Available

Posted on 13 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

Sir:
I noticed yesterday that one of your readers (and I’m assuming many others) are looking for AR-15 magazines.

While I haven’t yet tested the Israeli E-Lander magazines personally (I have six of them on order), the reviews seemed positive albeit the magazines are slightly heavy compared to a PMAG. Beggars can’t be choosers in this [current political and market] environment. A few people noted they were not fitting in MEGA lower receiver magazine wells, and were very tight in some other receivers, however the majority of users had no issues. I believe the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) use these magazine. I wanted to let your readers know of their availability, as they claim they are ‘In Stock’ and receiving shipments weekly, however they are estimated to ship within 21 days. I placed my order today (1/10/2013) and it went through just fine.

With the potential forthcoming ban on normal-capacity magazines this may be the most expedient way to stock up on some, at a reasonable price.

As an added tip, the coupon code “ARFCOM” will get a small discount and the code “FREE-GRND” will get you free shipping if the order is more than $100. Both codes can be used at the same time.

Regards, – Nick in Ohio

JWR Replies: At around $18 each, those are a relative bargain, it today’s frantic market. Watching some recent Gunbroker.com auctions and the ongoing sales at Buddy’s Board, I’ve logged a few data points: Glock pistol magazines have gone up in price 3X or even 4X (jumping from around $19 each to $60 to $80 each), PMAGs are up 4X, USGI alloy M16 magazines are up 3X, steel FN-SCAR (M16/AR-15 compatible) magazines are up 4X or even 5X, FN-FAL magazines are up 2X, and Beta Company 100 round CMAGs are also up 2X. The real bargains are HK alloy G3 (HK91 compatible) magazines and Steyr AUG magazines. Those are both up only 10% to 20%. My advice: Stock up before an import ban is declared via Executive Order, folks! I’ve been warning you since 2007: Almost as important as food storage, magazines are critical items for every well-prepared family’s program of Hamsterungen.

The Calling of the Christian Prepper: Faith and Survival, by Axgrinder

Posted on 12 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

This article will have little effect on the scoffer, whether a survivalist or not, but is directed toward the Christian who is also conscious of the value of preparation and the duty to provide for family in survival circumstances. It may also be effective for the mind a person who knows little of God but is open to investigate His existence. It is what God has laid on my heart as I read through the great articles and letters here in this forum. Keep up the good work. What I sense though, myself included, is that we, as humans, sometimes get too excited about details at the expense of the greater ideals. We tend to worry and live in fear which is sin.

First of all, what is a Christian?

There are a lot people who profess to be a Christian, but there are a lot of different beliefs that people have.
A Christian trust in Jesus: that His blood sacrifice forgives our sins, covers our iniquity, justifies our coming into the presence of God, and secures for us eternal life.
“This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” John 17:3
Eternal life is to know God. To truly know someone means that you must live in an interactive relationship with them. How true this is. You truly don’t know someone until you live with them. To truly know God is to live interacting with Him.
We are adopted as children of God, we are co-heirs with Christ. We are to interact with God as our Father and as full members of His family. Being a co-heir carries with it responsibility and thankfulness.

Now, to be a Christian you must believe that the Bible is inerrant, infallible, and inspired by God (Holy Spirit) in its original form. This is a key factor; yet, many who claim to be Christian do hold this view which leaves them to arrange their idea of reality and truth as they see fit, not as God has revealed. Without a proper belief in Scripture, people, essentially, create a new belief system, a new religion. The Bible is not merely a set of Laws and fantastic stories; but, as I said above, it is a revelation from God. The Bible reveals Laws that reveal what God cares about and what His character is like. The Bible is a whole work, and bits and pieces cannot be disregarded while others are accepted without changing the whole revelation; this is removing from authority God-breathed Scripture to usurp authority for your own. There are interpretive difficulties in Scripture and disagreements regarding meaning (which we must make every attempt to get right through reason, study, debate, and prayer), but for the most part what God is revealing to us in Scripture is plain and effective. The basic truth of God’s character and what He cares about is clear. What God, the only true and Living God – Creator of all things – expects from us is clear. The Father blesses us as He reveals to us what we can and need to know. Our Lord Jesus Christ tells us to love Him by being obedient. The Holy Spirit lives in us and guides us in our relationship.
The Christian is called to rectitude, repentance, and revival. Conformity with your heart in it.

As Christians we are called to:
-Disillusionment
People will let us down, we should not expect otherwise. God is the only truly reliable promise keeper. This being true does not mean that we as Christians shouldn’t make every effort to be like God. Even though people let us down we must not become cynical and hopeless. In Christ people can be transformed. What we should do is allow God to transform us into disciples.
-Peace and contentment
Christians should be at peace and joyful in all circumstances. It is a sin to worry. It is a sin to be greedy. It is a sin to be selfish.

-At one with Creation
Christians are reinstated as stewards of God’s garden, all creation. We were made for that duty which is to our pleasure.

-Mark of a Christian – LOVE
If you can get a copy of “The Mark of a Christian” by Francis Schaeffer please do read it through carefully. Love is the mark that proclaims the truth of the Gospel to the world, the fruit of righteousness. When Christians love one another as Christ tells us to, with agape love, then the world knows that He truly is Christ. What a huge responsibility; what a great privilege.

-Trust God
As Christians we trust God through all circumstances. We do all things for the glory of God because we know through faith and experience that God is faithful. There is a Hebrew word that I love; hesed, which is translated in different ways with difficulty because there is no English word to do it justice. The NRSV translates it lovingkindness. This word has as part of its rich meaning the idea that the strong party in a relationship does whatever is needed to help the weaker party make the relationship successful. We can trust that God works in our life with unlimited power and perfect love regardless of how it may seem.

“Therefore, since we receive a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us show gratitude, by which we may offer to God an acceptable service with reverence and awe; for our God is a consuming fire.”  – Hebrews 12:28-29

-3 Ideals the Christian survivalist should live by:

Matthew 6:19-21
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

This does not mean that we are not to prepare and store things up that we need. Jesus is saying that we should be more concerned about spiritual treasure than earthly treasure. In the Eastern culture who was the audience fine linens (moth) and coins (rust) were the treasures, the wealth of the day. People put their trust in these perishable things instead of God. The things were not the problem but what their hearts treasured. I really like my SCAR 17, but I treasure my relationship with God.

As we prepare for survival scenarios we must not forget that God is in control; God is sovereign! We must not forget that we have eternal life; we will live with God’s family forever. We must not forget to love God above all and love our neighbors as we do ourselves (God values every life).

[Jesus] said, ” ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’
“This is the great and foremost commandment.
“The second is like it, ‘YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.’
“On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”         Matthew 22:37-40

To clarify, (we must always seek clarity of terms, people use words that we think we understand, but of which they have totally different meaning, i.e.: “Christian”), what does Jesus mean by love? We turn to Scripture. A good rule of Biblical interpretation is that “Scripture interprets Scripture”.

“…earnestly desire the greater gifts. And I show you a still more excellent way.
If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned, but do not have love, it profits me nothing.
Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”       (1Corinthians 12:31-13:7)

Love is about humbly serving others, self-sacrifice; without love as a motive, what we do is nothing. Yet, if I do love God in the Biblical sense I have great rewards and benefits. I am transformed into a joyful, complete, mature, secure, and strong person. This happens when I experience eternal life (interactive relationship with God), know God. Then I am able to truly love others as myself (because I do love myself in the Biblical sense). There is a proper order here for success in the Christian life; love God, love others.

Matthew 20:25-28
“But Jesus called them to him and said, ‘You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. It will not be so among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be your slave; just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.’”

As we prepare we do it with the intention of being community leaders. Christian leaders are servants who love. Our whole life is to worship God. “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:1-2). We prepare to represent and worship God through any disaster or “crunch” situation. Circumstances never change our responsibilities as co-heirs with Christ. We should include in our prepping: insight, investment, and labor in order to help meet community needs. We should be prepared to help victims and those less capable to prepare.

Matthew 28:19-20
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

As Christians all are days are filled with the intention to share with others the Gospel. We are to always be prepared to teach those who seek answers (make disciples). As we prepare our cache of supplies, let us include resources for evangelism and discipleship. Let us include resources for our own personal study and growth. Along with my cases of ammo I should have cases of Bibles and Christian books. We should maintain resources that will help us to maintain solid doctrine and good theology. Keep sets of sermons by your favorite preachers; get all the G. Campbell Morgan you can get!

Survival is important. As Christians we are guaranteed survival. Still, God expects His faithful followers to be His remnant when society crumbles. We are to remain in Him through all circumstances. God makes His appeal to the lost through His people by showing them their great need of Him, there needs to be freed from the slavery of sin, by the lure of love; it is God alone who can save them, redeem them, but He uses us to bring them to see their need and turn to Him. It is the Christian who preaches and serves as we abide in Christ love.

There is so much more that could be said, but I think this is enough to ponder for now. I would love to hear how you personally apply these ideals as Christian “preppers” and survivalist.

For the Christian living in faith is survival at its best, the best we can do toward survival is to live in faith. Let us plan accordingly. Let us plan according to God’s Word, the Bible. Let us plan in accordance with Biblical love as a Church and as evangelist.

I’ll close with a new acronym for SurvivalBloggers to ponder: Forsaking All I Trust Him (FAITH)

Book Festival and Giveaway: An Interview with Joe Nobody

Book Festival and Giveaway: An Interview with Joe Nobody

Posted on 12 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

8126234284 8fff54e0f0 o Book Festival and Giveaway: An Interview with Joe Nobody Backdoor SurvivalToday I share the next author interview in the Backdoor Survival Fall Book Festival.  Joe Nobody, the author of The Home Schooled Shootist: Training to Fight with a Carbine as well as numerous other popular books, shares his answers to my questions and is also providing one of my readers with a free copy of his book.

Before we begin, I would like to announce the winner of last week’s giveaway.  “Bill K” has won a copy of Broken Web The Coming Collapse of the Internet Book Festival and Giveaway: An Interview with Joe Nobody Backdoor Survival.  Congratulations!  I have contacted you by email with instructions for claiming your prize.

There were a lot of great questions asked last week and I will be forwarding them on to George so that the two of us can answer them for you in an upcoming article.  Be sure to check out the details of this week’s giveaway below.

The Home Schooled Shootist

To set the tone for my interview with Joe, here is a short video to set the scene and get you in the mood.

A Chat with Joe Nobody

Tell me about your book, The Home Schooled Shootist. What is it about?

Shootist is an instruction guide that addresses many different aspects of fighting with a carbine. It was written for preppers who are interested in improving their shooting skills for defensive situations. The book includes some very unique practice exercises and drills, as well as hundreds of tips and tricks to improve the operator’s combat effectiveness with a shoulder fired weapon.

What type of research did you have to do while writing Shootist?

With this work, very little new research was required. The hard labor involved documenting what I’ve been teaching for years and presenting it in a fashion that could be digested in book form by the average prepper. Teaching someone in person, face-to-face is completely different than instruction via printed media. We worked very hard to get it right.

How long did it take to write?

That’s difficult for me to answer because I always have four or five books in progress at any one time. I started on Shootist over a year ago, but didn’t work full time on the project. In the last 18 months, I’ve released four instruction guides and three fiction novels. How-to books take more time to write because you must have all the details correctly noted. For Shootist, the ballistics and reloading sections took the longest to pen.

Every book, fiction and non-fiction, includes a message. What message do you hope my readers will take with them after reading Shootist?

My primary aim (pun intended) with this work was to show preppers some advanced firearm training methods specifically tailored for civilian shooters in defensive roles. Gun fighting has evolved drastically over the last 10 years. The weapons, optics and ammunition currently available have changed the game. Engagement distances are expanding, and combat power is increasing. Virtually every aspect of shooting is advancing at an accelerated pace. If you don’t know how to properly train and drill, you could be underutilizing potential and lowering the chances of survival.

Can you tell us a little bit more about yourself?

I’m a prepper – a strong believer in self-reliance. I’ve been married to the same wonderful girl for 25 years and have two teenage children. I’m really a Joe Nobody – just an average guy.

I’ve always received a tremendous amount of gratification from helping others, and that’s why I started writing books. I’ve had a lot of positive feedback, so my intent is to continue putting out product that people find helpful.

Do you have plans for another book?

Yes. A new, full length novel titled Apocalypse Drift will be hitting the shelves soon, as well as the fourth in the Holding Their Own series with everybody’s favorite preppers – Bishop and Terri.

Apocalypse Drift is a departure in many ways from the typical Joe Nobody novel. It is a story about a family that survives the collapse on a boat. In addition, I have five other works in various stages right now. My goal is to publish six books in 2013.

Is there anything else you would like to share with my readers?

I want to thank you for giving me a chance to share a little bit about my work. I wish every single person out there the best of luck with their preps!

Patriot Dawn – The Resistance Rises: “The Government of the United States of America Was No Longer an ‘Administration’; It Was A Totalitarian Regime.”

Patriot Dawn – The Resistance Rises: “The Government of the United States of America Was No Longer an ‘Administration’; It Was A Totalitarian Regime.”

Posted on 12 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

The following excerpt appears in the new book Patriot Dawn – The Resistance Rises, by Max Velocity. Max has served in both, the British and the U.S. armies, and also as a high threat security contractor. He has served on six military operational deployments, including to Afghanistan immediately post-9/11, and additionally he spent five years serving as a security contractor in both Iraq and Afghanistan. During his career in the British Army he served with British SOF (The Parachute Regiment), to include a role training and selecting recruits for the Regiment. More recently, he has served in a Combat Medic and Civil Affairs role in the US Army Reserves. He is the author of two previous books: Contact! A Tactical Manual for Post Collapse Survival  and Rapid Fire! Tactics for High Threat, Protection and Combat Operations.

His latest book, Patriot Dawn – The Resistance Rises, is a step away from the user friendly tactical manuals he is known for, and combines the excitement of an action-packed fictional novel with real-world battle hardened experience in offensive, defensive and counter-insurgency strategies and tactics.

The United States has descended into Civil War. The storm was rising for some time, a Resistance in the hearts of American Patriots to the strangulation of liberty by creeping authoritarianism. The scene was set. It just took a little push.

A terrorist attack on the United States leads to war with Iran, followed by collapse, as the economy goes over the cliff. The final blow is a widespread opportunistic Chinese cyber attack, taking down the North American Power Grid.

From the ashes, the Regime emerges. Liberty is dead. What remains of the United States of America is polarized.

The Resistance Rises.

Jack Berenger is a former Army Ranger Captain, living in northern Virginia with his family. Following the collapse, they fall foul of Regime violence and evacuate to the farm of an old Army friend. Jack is recruited into the resistance, to train the fledgling forces in the Shenandoah Valley. The fight begins. Resist.

The following excerpt appears in the prologue of Patriot Dawn – The Resistance Rises and takes place just after a large-scale terrorist attack on Washington D.C.

The terrorist attackers were reported to have been recruited, abetted, directed and sponsored by Iran, although the details were unclear and it appeared that an investigation was not the top priority of the Administration.

How had the terrorists managed to charter this plane, which had apparently originated in Dubai on a one stop flight to the US, loading it with two hundred heavily armed fighters, without alerting any suspicion?

However, the focus following the attack was not international but domestic, and the priority was the ‘safety and security’ of the public by the accelerated implementation of the massive domestic surveillance and policing drive.

Fear was paramount and the masses were even more convinced that giving up their freedom and rights was in their best interests for their ‘safety and security’. Many internet bloggers and alternative media sites were describing the attack as a ‘False Flag’, abetted by the ‘Powers That Be’, but those crackpots were soon shut down by the Department of Homeland Security, in order to prevent further ‘panic mongering’.

The attack also provided the justification for war against Iran. However, that war was prosecuted by the Administration in the form of a primarily naval and air campaign that limited the involvement of ground troops.

This limitation allowed for the deployment of troops as convenient to the agenda of the Administration and the military-industrial complex, but ensured that sufficient active duty units remained available for domestic operations.

The attack on Iran was however the final straw that preceded the total meltdown of the Middle East.

As part of the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act, measures were in place to allow Posse Comitatus laws to be ignored domestically. This was activated by executive order and active duty and reserve U.S. Army units were used to reinforce the National Guard in operations against domestic terrorists and sleeper cells.

The terrorist attack had precipitated the final mortal blow to liberty and the destruction of the United States of America as a Constitutional Republic. It was true that the erosion of liberty and the Bill of Rights had been going on for some time; the Constitution was viewed by many as a dead document, and the measures had already been put in place for the implementation of a state of emergency.

The attack had been a terrible thing, but at the same time it was so convenient to the agenda of the Administration. Everything since the attack had been the death rattle of liberty as the police surveillance state was fully imposed.

Due process and Habeus Corpus were suspended, and the NDAA allowed arrest and internment without probable cause or trial on the simple suspicion by the authorities that someone posed a terrorist threat; a system that was easily abused.

Everything in society was now centered on compliance and obedience to authority. Questioning of the orders of those in authority positions was not tolerated. America was no longer the land of the free, but anyone with a mind had seen that coming for a long time.

Anyone with ideas counter to the official line, or who argued or challenged authority, was labeled a ‘domestic terrorist’, arrested and interned in ‘corrective and reeducation facilities’.

Following the activation of the NDAA by Executive Order, a state of emergency was implemented. It was necessary, because another terrorist attack could happen at any time, and anyone could be a terrorist. There was a lot of talk about sleeper cells and many citizens were arrested and interned without trial. ‘Extremist terrorist’ organizations, including Patriot and conservative organizations such as the Tea Party, were outlawed.

It wasn’t really clear to the general public exactly what happened next, given that they only got their information from the Administration via the heavily state directed mainstream media, and the internet was now under heavy lockdown. However, the economic dangers that had been looming and fueled by the continuous policy of ‘Quantitive Easing’, or money printing by the Federal Reserve, finally came home to roost.

The economy went over the cliff. There was much discussion that the actual precipitator of the plunge was the cabal of bankers who were the real power behind the Regime; they had pulled the financial plug, causing a massive run on the banks and hyperinflation, just like they had done in 1929 to cause the Great Depression. But who really knew, given the lockdown?

The effect was ultimately to cripple the economy, destroying the middle classes. What better way to turn the screws of citizen compliance when so many were now reliant on entitlement handouts?

The ‘progressive’ agenda of collective socialism was nearing its ultimate fulfillment; coerced redistribution of wealth, except now no-one was generating any wealth to feed the monster of the dependent welfare classes.

Statist authoritarian big central government was the order of the day, even though those policies spelled the death of the country. Many ‘progressives’ yearned for that, so that the ‘United Socialist States of America’ could rise from the ashes.

The government of the United States of America was no longer an ‘Administration’; it was a totalitarian Regime.

The Case for the Bitcoin Cryptocurrency, by J. McG.

Posted on 11 January 2013 by Preparedness News Feed

A major theorem of cryptography is that anything that be done with a trusted authority can be done without1 a trusted authority.  This theorem can be applied to currencies, too. Anything that can be done by a central bank can be done without a central bank .  The central bank for the United States of America, as you probably already know, is the US Federal Reserve.  The stated dual mandate of the US Federal Reserve System is:

“The Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and the Federal Open Market Committee shall maintain long run growth of the monetary and credit aggregates commensurate with the economy’s long run potential to increase production, so as to promote effectively the goals of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long-term interest rates.”

To state this in other words, the dual mandate is:
1.  Stable prices
2.  Maximum employment

However, the real dual mandate for the US Federal Reserve during the past five years has been :
1.  Bail out the US Government.
2.  Bail out the Big Banks.

The US Federal Reserve System is the trusted authority that is now losing the trust of the average American and people worldwide.  The US Federal Reserve System has been monetizing the debt of the US Federal Government and buying the toxic mortgages being held by major US banks.  Debt monetization, quantitative easing, discount window lending, or whatever new name that the Federal Reserve comes up with, it simply means more money printing.  This results in price inflation for real things, such as food and gas. Debt monetization is advanced warning that a fiat currency is about to die or a government is about to go bankrupt and renege on its obligations.  The US Dollar is a fiat currency just  like all the other worldwide central reserve currencies.  Fiat currencies have no intrinsic value except the value that is forced by the government upon the people.  Sooner or later, all fiat currencies revert to their true value of zero.

Now, because of the Internet, there is an alternative currency called Bitcoin.  Bitcoin takes the basic theorem that anything that be done with a trusted authority can be done without a trusted authority and applies the theorem to the combined fields of cryptography and currency, which is now known as cryptocurrency.  Bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency that exists today. The best way to start learning about Bitcoin is to download the free application at the following link:

http://bitcoin.org/

A good definition of Bitcoin can be found in the Intro part of the readme file in the download.

Bitcoin is a free open source peer-to-peer electronic cash system that is completely decentralized, without the need for a central server or trusted parties.  Users hold the crypto keys to their own money and transact directly with each other, with the help of a P2P network to check for double-spending.

The application costs nothing to download and it is available for the major operating systems (OS):  Linux, Windows, and Mac OS.  The download takes a short time depending on the Internet connection speed.  However,  it may take over a day for the application to fully sync up with the Bitcoin system. Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer application.  There is no central infrastructure, server, or database.  Each user is both the client and server.

In Bitcoin, blocks are the files that contain all the transactions. The first time a user downloads the app there will be tens of thousands of blocks to load. However, once these blocks are loaded, a user just has to load the recent transactions. On a average day, there are about 200 blocks to load. The app is fully synched when all blocks have been loaded. The green check mark reflects the app is in sync.

The units of currency are called bitcoins (BTC).  Bitcoins have value because work is needed for its creation.  Bitcoins are mined.  The mining is done virtually by miners throughout the world with computers that have fast central processing units (CPU) and powerful graphics processing units (GPU).  However, the average users can just buy bitcoins through various exchanges and sites located on the web just as one would buy gold or silver coins. One of the main benefits of Bitcoin is that a user can transfer cash from one user to another user.  A user can buy things from various vendors located anywhere in the world by way of the Internet.  All of this can be done without using a bank,  money order, Western Union, or even PayPal.  The file that holds the bitcoins is called wallet.dat in Windows.  The wallet.dat file is just like a real wallet. If a user loses the wallet or the wallet is stolen, then the cash is gone, too.  Multiple backup wallets can be created and stored; however, Bitcoin prevents double spending. In Windows, as seen in the screenshots below, wallet.dat is located under Users -Username – AppData -Roaming -Bitcoin. The backup copies of the wallet should be stored at various locations, such as on a secured cloud server or a on a flash drive. The wallet.dat file should be encrypted before its stored. Bitcoin advises that encryption passwords and the wallet passwords should be at least 20 characters long containing uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.

“Your Bitcoin Address” that reflects the unique identifier for each Bitcoin owner. Each wallet can have multiple addresses. The benefit of anonymity is that a person can buy things or send money to people or organizations without anyone knowing their identity. Just for practice or as a learning experience, you can send bitcoins between two addresses on the same computer. Or download Bitcoin on two computers, and send money between the two addresses. Also, you will see that bitcoin transactions usually takes seconds to occur between the sender and receiver.

Bitcoin has now adapted to furnishing the app for Android cell phones. Now, users can transfer and make transactions with bitcoin using Quick Response (QR) codes. As seen below, QR codes are the checker board barcodes that also represent the Bitcoin address in a different format than the alpha-numeric format. An Android handset with the Bitcoin app can scan QR codes.

Bitcoin is not just for computer nerds and crypto-geeks. Survivalists apply the basic cryptography theorem that anything that be done with a trusted authority can be done without a trusted authority to many aspects of daily living. Unfortunately, the US Dollar and the Federal Reserve System penetrate all areas of life for the average American. The average American struggles paycheck to paycheck, year after year, due to the actions of the US Federal Reserve System, which is creating more and more US Dollars every year. Bitcoin provides a viable alternative to the US Dollar and the US Federal Reserve Banking System. Year to date, Bitcoin has gained over 100% in value versus the US Dollar and the other major world currencies. Bitcoin was launched back in January 2009 by a person or persons named Satoshi Nakamoto. At this time, the total market value of all bitcoins is approximately $125 million. There are over 10 million bitcoins in circulation with each worth at around $12.25. The total amount of bitcoins that will be mined is 21 million and the mining operations will stop in the year 2140 by designed. Anyone can be a miner or a person can be a member of a mining pool like Bitminter. There are many mining pools on the Internet. Mining pools combine the computing power of individual miners in order to mine more efficiently. Mining can be costly due to the mining rig that a user may have to set up as well as the electricity to power the rig. So, each user will have determine if its cost effective to become a miner.

YouTube is a good source of information and education about Bitcoin from users around the world. Most of the content is very informative and straightforward. Be careful if a video, or some company, states that it can double your bitcoins if you just send your bitcoins to them. This is the equivalent of someone saying, “Send me an ounce of silver and I will send you back two ounces of silver the next day.” This is a common scheme which appeals to the greedy as well as the naive user of Bitcoin. Please remember, there is no chargeback system with Bitcoin as there is with debit and credit cards. Once the bitcoin is sent, then its gone. The below video is a good start for a beginner. There are more detailed videos at YouTube as you become more comfortable with Bitcoin and have more questions that need to be answered.

Stealth Wear: New Counter-Surveillance Clothing Makes You Invisible to Drones

In early 2012 the U.S. Congress authorized the FAA Air Transportation Modernization and Safety Improvement Act. Within this bill is a provision calling for the deployment of some 30,000 robotic drones over the skies of America by 2015, arguably the boldest overt domestic surveillance initiative to have ever been introduced in the land of the free. With an average of some 600 drones allocated per state, this future network of highly advanced surveillance systems promises to give law enforcement, military and intelligence assets unprecedented video and audio access into the lives of every single American.

Privacy advocates are justifiably outraged.

But whenever government attempts to institute a ban on contraband items, or pass draconian laws, or introduce new tracking and surveillance methods, rebellious elements within the target populace rapidly develop counter-strategies and technologies to marginalize the threat.

Oftentimes, billion dollar government initiatives and development projects are rendered almost useless by low-tech strategies and designs.

Artist and fashion designer Adam Harvey, who objects to the authoritarian nature of the global surveillance state, has done just that.

In an effort to  counter the high-tech integrated drone surveillance systems soon to be fused into intelligence networks across the country, Harvey and a group of partners have developed a line of clothing dubbed Stealth Wear.

Making its debut on January 17th, the Stealth Wear line will include hoodies, scarves, hats, and t-shirts that will make the wearer invisible to thermal imaging cameras widely used throughout the unmanned aerial vehicle community.

The idea is that the material blocks heat signatures, captured using infrared sensors, which give people away to surveillance helicopters or drones from the skies above. [link]

The flagship Stealth Wear line will include:

  • The anti-drone hoodie and anti-drone scarf: Garments designed to thwart thermal imaging, a technology used widely by UAVs.
  • The XX-shirt: A x-ray shielding print in the shape of a heart, that protects your heart from x-ray radiation
  • And the Off Pocket: An anti-phone accessory that allows you to instantly zero out your phone’s signal

Via: Adam Harvey Projects

Harvey and his project team aren’t just limiting the scope of their work to anti-drone technology either.

They’ve introduced new techniques to counter computer vision (CV), also known as facial recognition.

CV Dazzle is camouflage from computer vision (CV). It is a form of expressive interference that combines makeup and hair styling (or other modifications) with face-detection thwarting designs. The name is derived from a type of camouflage used during WWI, called Dazzle, which was used to break apart the gestalt-image of warships, making it hard to discern their directionality, size, and orientation. Likewise, the goal of CV Dazzle is to break apart the gestalt of a face, or object, and make it undetectable to computer vision algorithms, in particular face detection.

Because face detection is the first step in automated facial recognition, CV Dazzle can be used in any environment where automated face recognition systems are in use, such as Google’s Picasa, Flickr, or Facebook

Source: CV Dazzle

They’ll also be launching a product called Off the Pocket for your cell phone, a technology that is capable of zeroing out your phone’s broadcast signal, making it invisible to GPS and mobile network triangulation.

Building off previous work with CV Dazzle, camouflage from face detection, Stealth Wear continues to explore the aesthetics of privacy and the potential for fashion to challenge authoritarian surveillance. Presented by PRIMITIVE at TANK MAGAZINE HQ will be a suite of new designs, made in collaboration with NYC fashion designer Johanna Bloomfield, that tackle some of the most pressing and sophisticated forms of surveillance today.

Source: Primitive London

Accompanying each project will be videos and tests revealing the process behind each technology and counter technology.
