How to grow Oyster mushrooms in your fridge for cheap!

Posted on 24 October 2011 by Joshua

Thanks to LifeHacker for bringing this to us.. How to grow Oyster mushrooms.. What a great video! if you have a good 6 months to get your mushroom garden growing this is a great way to do it.. that Costs almost nothing!

You’ll need a fresh Oyster mushroom with it’s woody base still attached, sterilized sawdust (pet cedar shavings), a few handfuls of straw, and common household items such as paper bags, 1-gallon freezer bags, and hydrogen peroxide. The entire process will take six months to result in free mushrooms, but your total time and cost investment is minimal.

Survival Engineering & Homestead DIY

Posted on 23 October 2011 by Joshua

Over the past week I have been watching “The Colony” and I really have been enjoying it. Sure it has a flaw here and their.. But what it really has brought into focus for me is what I call “Survival Engineering“ And how that can be a link either forwards or backwards into homesteading and how you can prepare your homestead both urban and rural for long term off grid survival and at the same time build skills to help you prepare to for survival situations.

I still have a few episodes before I start writing reviews on the show.. but for now.. I want to start a new section of the website highlight some views and ideas of Survival Engineering
